July 2018

7/2/2018

I hope all of you are having a great summer and enjoying the warm weather. Before we get too far along into the summer, I wanted to take the time to update everyone on the activities and events that have happened, are happening and are going to happen shortly. Have a very safe and happy summer!

Fall Session Registration
Fall session starts on Thursday, September 6th. The fall session tends to be a very busy time with new registrations and returning students. In order to better manage class enrolment and sizes we would like to ask all returning students to respond to this e-mail and confirm their registration prior to Thursday, July 12th. Returning students will be given first opportunity to register for the fall session, registrations received after this date will be placed on a waiting list, depending on class size.
Please note: If you have previously completed an enrollment/registration form, you do not need to complete it again. Registration fees can be paid on the first day of class. Please let me know if you have any questions or comments.
Canada Day 151 Demonstration

Summer Session and Weapons Classes

Just another reminder that we will be holding some classes outside on the “nice” days. Please bring along your running shoes and socks to classes during the summer session.

For students in the Senior Kids class and adult class, we will be starting back up with our weapons training. Students are required to have a Bo staff for these classes (I will be bringing along a few extras for those who forget). These can be purchased at most stores where lumber is sold.

What to ask for at the store:
-Straight hard wood dowelling (without too much of a warp in it)
-Width: 1 1/4 inch
-Length: The length of the student’s arms and chest (finger tip to finger tip). I would recommend adding another inch or two if you are still growing, so you don’t outgrow it by the end of the summer.

Please let Sensei know if you have any questions.

Tameshiwari (board breaking class)

We will be again conducting a board breaking seminar on Thursday, Aug 30th (7:30 to 9pm) for students in the adult class. There will be an approximate $25 fee (final price yet to be determined) to cover the cost of the wood.  We are asking student to preregister to help us determine the amount of wood we will need. There will be a sign up sheet posted at the back of class.  Special thanks to Kurt Lowrick and Ray Roth for helping to organize the event.

Chito Ryu and Karate Ontario Membership Fees

Each year students are required to become a member of the four associations that support our club and it’s students. They are the Canadian Chito Ryu Association, the Chito Ryu Association of Ontario, the National Karate Association and Ontario Karate Federation. These 4 organizations provide us with a variety of different supports, including instruction manuals, crests, grading certificates, instructor licenses and coaching certification, tournaments, seminars and clinics, and club and personal injury insurance, just to name a few. All students are required to complete the membership forms and fees.
The process is slightly different then last year.  OKF has asked that members register online for their portion. The Chito Ryu Association registrations are still done on paper.

Step 1:
1.) Complete the OKF/NKA membership form portion on the following website www.trackiereg.com/okf-individuals. You can then pay the fee ($32.50 coloured belts or 42.50 blackbelts) using your credit card. When completing the form, indicate your Dojo is the "New Hamburg Karate Club", your participant type is "Competitor" and your membership type is "Club Only" from the drop down menus.

Step 2:
2.) Complete the paper Canadian and Ontario Chito Ryu Association registration form (one line per student on a group form) located at the back of the dojo and submit your membership fee (cash or cheque) to me for each student.
Chito Ryu Fee schedule:
Black belts and Kyu Belts (White to Brown Belt) fee is $30
Step 3: (Only if you started Karate after March 1, 2017) New members Only (those that have never been a member of the four organizations in the past - i.e. those students that started after March 1, 2017) will also be required to complete a waiver form in addition to the registration form. Please note: If you have completed a waiver form previously, you do not have to complete another one this year.  Forms are located on the table at the back of the Dojo.

Please complete the above information and submit it with your fee to Sensei by Thursday, April 26, 2018.
